Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Great read for beginners and seasoned fisherman. Also makes for a great client gift. Great addition to the first edition! I liked this book,but there were some parts where I wasn't exactly sure what the author was trying to explain. Chapter 7 was a little tough understanding at times,but on the whole , I liked the book,and I'd recommend it.

Please try again later. I've been fly fishing for years but have never fly fished for trout much. I picked this book up since it looked like a good intro to nymphing, which is a very productive method for trout. The author is a guide, so that was another selling point.

The book is excellent, one of the best FF books I've ever read. Most FF books I've seen particularly the ones for beginners contain almost too much information. They overload the reader with casting, line tapers, leaders and flies and seem to forget one crucial item: This book is heavy on the "catching fish" part. It's just over pages and contains no fluff. The author outlines one basic nymphing rig and goes into detail on how to use it. There are also very brief but complete guides to equipment selection and casting.

The section on reading water is the best I've ever seen. Although, the book contains a lot of basic info, I think even experienced fishermen would pick up some useful tips.

It's another small book that skips the "poetry" and tells you how to catch fish. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Maybe its not the best written book that I have read on the subject, I don't know squat about softball either as the author goes back and forth comparing both. But for the price you can beat it. If you have an open mind to the sport and try to get the most of it, it gives you a different approach on nymph fishing and a way to improve yourself.

So I say if you like fly fishing, like nymph fishing and want to improve yourself no matter if you are a newbie to the sport or an advanced fly fisherman you may happen to like this one. One person found this helpful. This is a book that I would buy and gift to one of my Grandchildren or anyone seeking to perfect their Nymphing skills. It is fairly straight forward and sensible in its approach to understanding this vital approach to fishing and provides enough information to get the proverbial window open for further exploration.

Nymphing takes many forms and this book will explain in some detail the more basic and best means to learn your craft. Duane Redford' s approach to nymph fishing is systematic and thorough. I've read this book several times in the last month since I purchased it. I've applied his approach to steelhead fishing on the great lakes tributaries and they work fantastic. I'm learning to catch fish where I've only guessed at how to approach them in the past.

Since I bought this as a kindle book I can have it available with me stream side on my smart phone. This is definitely a great resource to improve the fun of fly fishing. This is definate read if you want to fish the South Platte in the Deckers area. Although not a good how to book for begining fly fishers and more geared for the more experienced fisher, like myself, it gives you a mental picture of the type of nymph fishing I and others that fish this area experience.

This book was really easy to read and understand.

The fishing techniques were easy enough to apply with some practice. It's not prose, just good straight forward instruction.
