Learned alot about the effects of the Civil War on Kansas. Other than that, not too compelling. Same style of letter writing, so it did not really distinguish each of the women writing the letters of each book. I like the history that I have read in these books. It is hard to imagine the women of today living like a lot of those women did.

It also spoke of women trading quilt patterns, for example in wagon trains and when meeting new women. As a quilter I find that very interesting. I do like Linda Hubalek books. May 18, Arlene rated it it was amazing Shelves: This book is based on the story of Maggie Kennedy who followed her brothers to Kansas in the 's. She was the great-great-grandmother of the author.

It is told in letters written to her sister in Ohio and follows the trials and troubles of the Lawrence, Kansas area before and during the Civil War. Aug 13, Kitty rated it really liked it. Last of the series, enjoyed the entire series. Pioneer history is one of my favorite subjects, and this book opened me up to more civil war history as did the other two in the series.

See a Problem?

Feel the uncertainty, doubt, and danger faced by the pioneer women of Kansas as they defend their homes and pray for their men during the Civil War. We think . Stitch of Courage: A Woman's Fight for Freedom (Trail of Thread #3) Sititch of Courage, the third book in the Trail of Thread series, tells the story of the.

Another powerful book Because of the time period, the majority of these letters home were about the civil war and correlating fighting just before the war. Such devastation and suffering are a stark reminder of this country's past. But, there are also letters about first love and marriage, first home and first child!

An amazing truth that despite the circumstances, there is both joy and mourning, death and new life! Enjoy this first hand account of Kansas in the time of the Cival War! Feb 24, Debbie West rated it really liked it. I was so disappointed in this book. I could have read the same information in an encyclopedia or in a Civil War history book. There was very little information that made me think a young girl write these letters, names meant little in it. The only interesting thing about the quilts is that Maggie gave one of hers to Robert Pieratt before he left to fight in the war.

I I was so disappointed in this book. I can't see how a soldier would have carried a full bed sized quilt for hundreds of miles. Then she mentioned giving much of her trousseau to the survivors of Quantrill's Raid. That was a good part I thought. Other than those two interesting points, I was bored and skimmed over much of the book.

May 29, Sherry Sharpnack rated it it was amazing. This was a quick read, maybe 1. Quantrill's raid on Lawrence, KS, is described in surprisingly graphic detail. The book is a satisfying ending to this trilogy examining Ms. Hubalek's family migrating to Kansas in the "s. This time, I was determined to be able to do a better job of knowing where I was going, and how to get there. Fodor's Boston certainly seems clear and helpful, and it is much more user-friendly and well-produced than the Lonely Planet guide, which is hard to read and has decidedly poor photo reproductions. I don't like having to rely on on-line travel guides when I travel. For one thing, one can't always rely Great continuance of the series. What a treasure to have for future generations to the family tree.

A lot of good, unbiased information packed into these few pages, as well as suggestions for further print and electronic resources. We will do hiking next week but this is my first time doing it in my life.

I just put stuff on my backpack. I am searching for a guide that can help me in hiking and this book got my interest. I learn some things in this book but the topic about hiking is too shorts it is all about bonuses that the author put on this book. I am expecting for longer topic about hiking. What do you do when you have exchange students in from Paris who are bored from all the snow and want to go into Boston on their own? You have them download this guide and take them to the nearest T station! It turned out to be the perfect companion and I'm sure they learned more about Boston history than they would have with my very weak translation skills.

Was surprised to find this type of a guide in French that was Kindle-ready. Essential Historic Sites Across the U. I loved this book-it is an easy read with information on places I never would have thought to visit as well-I often use travel guides by Rick Steves-this book reminds me a bit of his style as it has many off the beaten path recommendations-I like the references to history and cultural significance I plan to use this book as I travel often with my young kids-the references to web sites is also helpful especially for me because I am an obsessive planner and love to learn all I can before visiting a place-travel should be a meaningful adventure-this book definitely helps you do that and more-Highly recommend!

We spend five days there and with this guide as well as cross checking with TripAdvisor , couldn't be happier with our lodging, meals, and sightseeing. I have come to trust these guides and will always buy Lonely Planet if it's available for the location we are going to. It is dense and requires some studying ahead of time to get the most out of it, but well worth the time invested. It gives information on itineraries based on the number of days you have, places to stay with pros and cons of the area as well as the individual lodgings , suggested places to eat with the number one suggestion for the area highlighted.

Just as an example, we followed the suggestion of the best place to eat in Little Italy and couldn't have been more pleased.
