Make no mistake, this volume is one of many of Swedenborg's that are the core of a new and eminently rational religious philosophy, one that delves into the interior meanings of the Bible. One person found this helpful. There is obviously great amounts of misunderstood information and these books are blessings to mankind d to understand the Lord on a more personal level. This book vividly illustrates the connection between the world we wake up in each day and the vibrant spiritual influences giving rise to this world from just beyond our field of vision. It teaches, among many other things, how one can identify and separate the helpful thoughts from the hurtful ones.
By doing this, the book provides a practical how-to guide for how to lead a less anxious life. If you want to know what awaits you, and the qualities of your soul which will determine your final abode, I HIGHLY recommend you read this book, and study it. I am greatly fascinated with Emanuel Swedenborg's writings. Swedenborg's intelligence is not to be seriously questioned. However, one might be seriously justified in questioning just how much of his insight into the spiritual realms was genuine reality and how much was fantasy, illusion, or maybe some elements of hallucinations.
As someone who is devout in the spiritual path, I loved to read what Swedenborg had to say about Heaven and Hell, as well as his numerous supposed communications with angels, visits to Heaven, and even the opportunity to see what Hell is like.
My stance toward these writings of a brilliant mystic is one of suspended judgment -- feeling unable to fully trust his writings, while yet being almost compelled to believe that the Divine Realm had given this brilliant thinker some genuine insights into the nature of the spiritual realities that undergird all we know and experience.
To a spiritual seeker who is not willing to settle for merely routine, run-of-the-mill church teachings that are very flimsily based on dubious interpretations of a few relevant scriptures, I highly recommend Emanuel Swedenborg's brilliant writings. They can make a difference in one's life -- a difference, I believe, for the better. I approached this book expecting a rambling schizoid work by someone who was mentlaly unbalanced. Instead, Swedenborg is a clear and articulate writer, his theology is perfectly sensible and well thought out, there is an internal logic to what he writes that extends throughout his writings.
I don't know what to make of his claim that he was appointed to be a prophet to mankind and to explain this to us all. It would be easy to dismiss it outright if his writing was a mess and his ideas insane. But his writing is clear and organized and his theology is so sensible that his books leave you bewildered. If he didn't claim to converse with angels, he would be considered a fine theologian who came up with a very practical and humane vision of christianity.
His theology is perfectly suited to the modern world. But Swedenborg was absolutely convinced that he was a seer. Therein lies the problem of what to make of him. It is clear that he was utterly sincere. That sincerity combined with a valuable collection of writings makes him an individual to reckon with. Many people have struggled to come to a definite opinion about Swedenborg's claims.
You may end up one, also. As a Christian, I'm not entirely sure how much of this to believe, but confess it is a very fascinating description of the afterlife. I would guess that many people have wondered what lies beyond "the veil. A very interesting read in all respects.
Writing can get a little hard to understand do to the fact it was written so long ago.
