While not absolute garbage, it was far too long and dragged without the plot to back up its length. The repetition of "key concepts" of how noble Nicholas is, of how dark he is inside, of how kind and saint-like the heroine is, of how much she loves Nicholas, of why they cannot be together If I only had a dollar for each time one of these thoughts was repeated, I could happily retire.

I honestly couldn't feel any chemistry between the characters - either the guy was sulking or throwing passionate glances at the heroine. And she was constantly going from one extreme to another - either madly in love or swearing that this was it for her and she'd never do another thing for him again. Likewise, their passionate love for each other came completely out of the blue. Her fleeing into the woods alone and then falling asleep on a rock AFTER discovering bodies of tortured people and feeling danger all around them - all while unpursued by the hero who is said to be "always on guard" and constantly watching for danger because he is so noble Also, a bit more editing wouldn't hurt: I hate to be so hard on someone's labor of love - especially as the book was free - but I also don't want anyone else to waste their time if they have other options.

Nicolas has been brought up as a bastard in a monastery. When he went on Crusade, he was captured and tortured, and had escaped when he killed his captor a woman. Now he has been brought to an estate and given no choice by his liege lord to marry, or have his betrothed accused of being a witch. He cannot abide the thought that his healer might be burned at the stake, so he agrees to wed her.

Celestia has a vision before Nicolas arrives, and knows he is her destiny. Born with the gift to heal, she knows that it requires she marry a man she loves, or lose her ability altogether. She doesn't know much about the man she is supposed to marry, but she feels the darkness deep within him. Will she ever be able to love him? He will soon take her away from everything she knows and loves, and worries that he will be able to protect her from others who might consider her gift that of a witch.

Get involved with these two as they travel from her ancestral home to the wilds of Scotland where their new home leaves much to be desired, and rumors abound that it is also haunted by the ghost of Nicholas' mother. The discovery of love between them is both a redemption, and one of unending devotion. Nicolas is a hero to be admired: Celestia is the consummate healer, caring, considerate, and emotionally valiant, regardless of the situation she has found herself in. Both will find safety and passion in each other's arms.

I loved how two imperfect people could be absolutely perfect for each other! I think you will enjoy this book as much as I did. One person found this helpful. I really liked reading this book. I like historical romance - which this was. AND, I like paranormal books - which this book was as well. The heroine, Celestia, has a magical healing ability.

At the end, I wondered why I hadn't quit reading halfway through, when it was apparent the story wasn't really going to go anywhere. I think there was potential with these characters, but to me it didn't evolve to the point where I will have any interest in reading Book 2. I applaud the author for writing and completing her book, and for getting it published.

That is a noteworthy achievement. I merely wish it had been more of what I sensed it might have become.

I thought this was an awfully cute book. I really enjoyed Celestia and her family dynamic and of course Nicholas. I enjoyed trying to figure out what was going to happen next and then trying to figure out why. The story held my attention well and kept some suspense for me. There were parts through out the book I thought could have been elaborated on or left out. I found myself keeping them in mind thinking they may have something to do with the story line and th I thought this was an awfully cute book.

I found myself keeping them in mind thinking they may have something to do with the story line and then they were never brought up again. I guess maybe she was trying to cover everything towards the end of the book. After Nicholas got back to the keep, the book really could have ended there with a brief epilogue. The writing seemed to suffer greatly after that point in the book.

I thought it was a wonderful free read though, and enjoyed reading it. Jan 23, D. Williams rated it really liked it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, enjoying Traci's characterizations and the story revolving around a young woman who has healing skills, but because of her differently colored eyes is considered a witch by some in the Medieval setting of the book. The relationship between her and her husband is nicely done, moving along at a gentle pace and there was much enjoyment to be had when they consistently bumped heads with one another.

The secondary characters are also well written and I am looking forward to reading more of Traci's work. There is a mystery involved in the story, which I'll avoid here to keep the secret for those who have yet to read it, but I can confirm it is well-written and thoroughly enjoyable.

When her father's liege lord orders her to marry his son, Nicholas, Celestia will need every bit of her magic to heal Nicholas's wounded and tormented soul, and to keep evil from invading their new life. Jan 12, Mona rated it really liked it. I was so anamoured with the dynamics of Celestia and Nicholas. They are opposites in that she is full of light and he has a pit of darkness. They were a couple that I constantly rooted for to be together in the end. Of course, Nicholas just has to be one of those, I am too much of a tortured soul to have anyone love me and my darkness will only make them worse.

I really loved this. The characters were intriguing, the plot was unique, and the ending was perfection.

My one problem is the fantastically stubborn determination the two lovebirds had to push each other away.

Another problem I had was that I couldn't decide if I was reading a watered down historical romance meant for teens or a Christian historical romance, which for those who know me, I tend to stay far away from. Sep 24, Susie rated it it was ok. I wanted to like this book. I thought the plot was a little confusing and even at the end I didn't quite understand everything that had happened. There was too much backstory involved.

Also the sexual tension built up to one graphic scene at the end and it was all too much for me. May 07, Elaine rated it liked it. Pretty good storyline, but I have to agree with another reviewer that said it had too much padding. This could have been a very good book.
