The War Of The Dwarves

It's a good romp through the fantasy realm of Girdlegard, with lots of orcs and dark elves and even some forces of "light" that make trouble for Tungdil and his dwarvish companions. Occasionally things happen that seem a little contrived or unexplained, and you have to just accept that and move on. Markus tends to kill off his characters a bit unnecessarily, it seems to me, but that's the privilege of the author!

And while there is a satisfying conclusion, he has also laid a base for the next volume, The Revenge of the Elves, which is even more complex. This a review of the series in general, not just this specific book. All in all Mr. Heitz writes a fast paced book with multiple action sequences. It's definitely not boring by any means.

War of the Dwarves and Orcs

My issues with the series have to do with how the characters are portrayed. Similar to Game of Thrones, characters are created, grow and then are killed off. Also, they change rather quickly; going from good to bad and vice versa. The rapid changes are explained by magic corruption or the typical bad stuff happened so the character completely changes his or her personality. With the rather high turnover in both individuals and personalities, it is hard to develop any attachment to them. All in all, the book is a good read.

Not memorable, but good. After reading the first book I immediately picked up and began to read this one. After conquering the evil mage, Tungdil and his band of dwarves, among other companions ranging from all different types of races, begin to restore their weary race in a new kingdom. Dealing with the harsh loss of their friends, they much each face their own trials and tribulations right off the bat. Nothing seems to stay peaceful for long, and you can feel the pain they experience. The book is high paced and action packed at nearly every turn, with interesting characters and a wonderful array of creatures and seemingly endless hordes of beasts.

The detail and descriptions that go into this novel let you truly see and experience the world of Girdlegard through your mind's eye from the sights of an epic war, to the small warm heart filled feelings of even the smallest triumphs. It pulls you along like a fluid moving river and leaves you begging for more.

The story is great and all but I can only handle so much inter species turmoil Very much enjoyed reading the book, The Dwarves by Markus Heitz, The story line develops and moves quickly.

War of the Dwarves and Orcs

Goon charater development without too much details unless the author felt it necessary for use later. Interesting idea of having the main character as a dwarf, read a lot of books where dwarfs are supporting characters. Provided enough background on dwarf society to give the background without dwelling on the topic as in some anthropological studies class.

Curretnly reading the second book. Could not follow some use of words but I believe this is a transcription from a German work and there may not have been a clear way to translate. Once I started the first one, I had to order the next two so that I could start reading them immediately.

Excellent follow on from the first book The Dwarves. Written like a Tolkien novel that eventually finds its own feet. Plenty of twists and turns and misery upon misery for the hero.
