Children were immersed in our rich heritage of literature and came to school dressed as their favourite book character. We sold books at our book fair and parents joined us at the book cafe. Ian Bland, professional children's poet joined us for the day to perform his poems and to teach the children more about poetry. The children and staff loved it!
Little Leigh Primary School - Foundation
It was great to here children reciting poetry on the playground. Every child in school learnt about Remembrance and created poems, art and recounts to remember. We all came together at 11am.
Our choir rehearse every week with Mrs Beesley. This term the performed at Blakemere to raise money for The Joshua Tree and for our school. The Joshua Tree visited us to tell us more about the fantastic work they do for children and their families affected by childhood cancer. We all came to school dressed in onesies to raise money for the charity. Every child in school will take part in a Christmas performance. Our younger children will be performing their nativity at Barnton Pentecostal Church. Each class studied the Jewish passover, learning about the religion and the traditions associated with the festival Local study: The whole school have researched the theme of salt in relation to our local area.
Each class was given a theme, such as shopping or the landscape. In Expressive Art and Design, children will be creating their own pebble fish just like in our book. Each one will form part of a large display and will focus on how important we are as individuals within our class group.

Please can you make sure that all of your child's belongings are clearly labelled with their names, including items such as snack pots and drinks bottles. This helps us massively and if things get lost, they can easily be taken back to their rightful owner!
Please can we ask that your child has a spare pair of underwear in their bag, accidents are unavoidable! Children will receive homework weekly and it will alternate between maths and phonics.
COLLECTIONS
Homework goes out on a Friday and is due back the following Thursday. I will always add a clear and detailed explanation of what is expected but please do come and speak to me if you are ever unsure. Your child participates in 2 weekly PE sessions; these take place on a Tuesday afternoon and a Friday morning. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in on these days. PE kits should be clearly labelled with their names this is especially important in Reception! We will send PE kits home on a Friday.

Long hair should be tied back for PE and no jewellery including earrings is to be worn. Children are encouraged to read at least 3 times a week, for around 10 minutes with an adult at home.
Where possible, we would appreciate a comment in their reading diaries to let us know how your child is getting on. Your child will also participate in 2 weekly individual reading sessions, these will be noted in their reading diaries. During these sessions your children will have the opportunity to change their books that they read with you at home. We recommend that you read through them twice so that they have a good understanding of the words and the comprehension aspects of the book.
