There were commas where none were needed, in profusion. The split sentences drove me crazy. The British spelling, however, didn't bother me at all. One person found this helpful. Sci-fi has to be very carefully thought out, and this book by Ian Smethurst is very well thought out.

Well written and exciting. Once again I found myself suckered by reviewers giving rave reviews to an e-book, only to find the reviews were WAY off base. Aggressive alien lizard species Said alien species dine of internal organs and drink bile Said alien species way more powerful than puny earth men I could go on, but I think you get the point. The Author also takes us down little bunny trails that don't seem to have any relation to the story.

For instance, the author spends a lot of time describing a day-long shopping trip one of the heroes takes with his wife and son. I kept waiting for something to happen The whole story didn't flow and seemed quite stiff and poorly crafted. I guess you could say the author never really pulled me in.

Listen, if you're an adolescent, you might find the story not so painful to read. You cannot judge a book by its cover and this one is a good example. The book is a good example of bad writing, the sort of crap that gives amazon a bad name.

Passive structure is favoured by him: He has a lot to learn about writing, but I sense people like Mr Smethurst thinks he's "The Bees knees" and will keep on turning out his drivel. I read a large portion of the ebook scifi military fiction and find better character depth and development than this story. Sorry, I liked the plot development and dialogue but the character's are too wooden. The cover gave this one away as a premium title, sadly it is lacking in most areas. Poor science, plot and riddled with typos. Even so, some of the action was good and the author shows promise.

Maybe the next one will be better? Read this before it came out on Kindle and I was very impressed. If you want a smooth space opera with believable characters, settings, history and, most importantly, technobabble, then this is as good a place as any to find it.
