It's more exegetical and redemptive historical then speculative and philosophical, which is how Calvin liked it. Most of the philosophical discussion occurred during controversy, and Edmondson does a good job contextualizing the various statements by Calvin. He also provides something of a new perspective insofar as he interacts with the Polish controversy around Stancaro.
