If it wasn't for the keen interest I had in the actual story of Sweeney Todd, I wouldn't have finished this book.
Such a lengthy and boring introduction. Unnecessary narration of stories that do not serve the purpose of the plot.

Even the end, which has a good lead up to, was rushed and not satisfying. That being said, these are just my feelings towar If it wasn't for the keen interest I had in the actual story of Sweeney Todd, I wouldn't have finished this book.

If you like serial killers that kill for no apparent reason, this is the book for you.
It is well-written and the author is good and having you "see" what is happening, which is good. It was hard to get Johnny Depp out of the way so I could picture the person the author was trying to portray.

I just wish it had given some reason as to why he did what he did. But in real life, unlike "Dexter", they may have no reason that we can discern.
It's really bizarre that they would make a musical of it. I think that's funny. It's not for the feint of heart It's a quick read, not really long and drawn out which I liked. And the author didn't try to show off by using words that you have to constantly look up, which slows you down.
It is definitely imprinted on my mind. It's free or almost free, so go for it. I'm glad I'm a woman and will never have a razor at my throat! Sweeney Todd first appeared in "A String of Pearls" serialized in penny dreadful. That book was huge success and one of the unsung gems of the period.
This version is a truncated version of the original published a few years later to try to capitalilze on th einfamy of the original. It's a far superior book. Disappointing -- thought the story of Sweeney Todd, which I have wondered about since I was a kid 60 years ago, would have been more interesting and exciting. Still, I had to read it!

Most of the side-stories were poorly written and seemed to have little relevance to the story! I purchased it to have a good literary example of a penny dreadful and found myself actually enjoying the read! I enjoy history and historical books.
