We pass our lives as if waiting at a train station. Passengers join us as we await our final ride — mostly strangers, but occasionally, some become temporary friends. The former represent the majority of humanity, who occupy our daily routines. The latter, however, may be likened to those with whom we form lasting bonds, such as family and close friends. As in life, our fellow passengers either depart our presence to catch their ride or wait while we do so. We believe that we are what we think we are. As human beings, however, our awareness of reality suffers greatly from sensory deprivation.
For example, in addition to the expanded ranges of sight, smell, hearing, and other modes of perception that have been shown to be present in other life forms, we are unable to perceive physical interactions that have been recorded by sophisticated monitoring equipment. Furthermore, science has discovered phenomena that suggest the presence of other dimensions, which are also beyond the grasp of our senses. Consequently, we are unable to fathom our arrival in this world and perhaps others, as well as forms of energy from a sphere of existence that is concealed from us while we maintain human form.
Somewhat like actors on a set, where we can only convey ourselves within the confines of script and background, our introduced life energies are constrained by our genetic predispositions and the processes and learning experiences that become imprinted in our brains. Essentially, each of us utilizes our corporeal resources to perform a human performance over a life span — be it short or long — utilizing our limited minds to express the hidden forces that are our true selves. Quite possibly, this may also occur within the structures of altogether different forms of life, whereby roles might be played out within the biology of plants and insects.
When our bodies and minds expire, and our brief adventures end, we are forced to abandon the vehicles of our temporary journey, whereupon our life force energies return to their previous state, beyond the reach of human senses. Greatly complicating our sojourn is the need for an explanation. Our inquisitive minds require that we human beings, while unable to grasp the mechanics of this process, attempt to find purpose and meaning. Until we, or our successors, evolve the necessary sensory apparatus and attendant mental development, our religious and philosophical views must serve to answer profound questions, which can only be conceptualized and framed within the limitations of our being: Do we actually leave our previous — and subsequent — state upon assuming an earthly form, or is this concept an illusion created by the inability of our sensory capacities to detect a parallel existence in another dimension?
What universal or other forces drive this process? Are we truly individuals, or is this an idea that we project from our human physical separateness?

While our innate bonding nature may evoke a special closeness with family, spouse, and friends — along with a more intense remorse at their passing — this may merely be a personal interpretation of our more intimate association with their own life experiences, being no more significant than our interactions with any of our other fellow beings, with whom we might actually be one entity.
Is our placement among humanity a luck-of-the-draw affair, whereby our adventure might be cut short during childbirth or after a fully-human experience through old-age senility, or is some form of pre-selection involved? One need only witness the spark of personality exuding from a newborn to experience a presence that transcends flesh and blood.
In essence, we always a re! Although we cannot fully comprehend this aspect of our existence, we can take comfort in the knowledge that its workings, which are probably entirely within the natural laws of science, will eventually be revealed to us — most assuredly after our brief human adventure. Life is merely a transition between states, which are unknowable to our earthly senses. We have been unborn and will be dead infinitely longer than we breathe. After the interruption, our passing is merely a return to our default state.
Each of us is a bit player in a drama set upon a stage of grandest proportions. Are we truly alive? We, and all life forms considered animate, are actually a combination of molecules which would otherwise be considered inanimate. As humans, our being is therefore merely such a collection of odds and ends, molded in a pattern that allows us the luxury of perception and self-analysis.
When we pass on, these building blocks dissociate, dissolve, and recombine, leaving us with no more than that which we possessed before beginning our adventure at birth. Since our physical essence, and all else, returns to its original status, the animated middle-portion of the process is merely an anomaly in the realm of the inanimate.
Until some point in our maturity, we normally do not devote much analytical thought to what may be the most profound considerations of all: In our youth, the cessation of life — especially our own — is perceived only incidentally, as a common event that occurs to others. As education, social interactions, and other inputs from the environment add perspective, our thoughts on this subject become more and more defined, oftentimes providing the illusion of a sense of purpose and meaning to our lives.
In time, we construct a personal, analytical viewpoint on the idea of life and, with it, puzzlement over its terminus. There really should be no confusion over the departure of our mental facilities, however. The mind becomes what it once was — or was not. We know very well the fate of our corporal selves upon reaching our end, but what of the non-physical? Does that which we call our souls, life energy, etc. Human beings visualize surroundings quite differently from other animated forms of life.
For example, insects, fish, and even other mammals, see the world with eyes and other sensors that describe a very different environment. It is very likely, then, that our perceived reality is not comprehensive, leaving much yet to be discovered. Unknown laws of physics may, in time, reveal unimagined forms of energy or connections that might tie our pre- and post-being to elements of the cosmos. The machinery of our intrinsic being is built up in three well-defined stages. Foundation basic life energy: Each of us is, from the start, imbued with predispositions toward the use of that which we inherit in our genes and all that we learn in our life experience.
It is as if we each have been programmed, uniquely, to utilize the impending structures that are to be built upon a floor-plan. Cellular memory genetic inheritance: By providing features and limits to our mental and physical capabilities, the DNA in our cells determines much of how we build upon our base. Developmental learning life experience: All that we glean from life adds to our foundation, either complementing or, on a superficial level, altering it temporarily.
As we approach our end, these stages reverse. The brain eventually begins to shut down, thereby purging our memories, passions, and emotions. This is accompanied by the deterioration of our cells, which eventually becomes the cause of death. What remains at the moment of terminus is that with which we entered the world.
