    Aug 28, Chris rated it really liked it. I met the author who was dressed like John Wayne and promoting his books on a corner in Old Town Scottsdale a few years back.

    He suggested I would like this book, so I bought it. It was set during and after the Civil War, about Ginny McBride, who was hit by a musketball and develops amnesia, and her and her male friend, Matt Jorgensen, who has been trying to find her. Nov 13, Conan Tigard rated it liked it. It has been many years since I read a book in the Brazos Series.

    In fact, two other books have been published that I haven't had a chance to read yet. I remember really liking Matt Jorgensen, but having a small issue with the jumping around in time.

    I got confused by her appearing to Matt on the battlefield during the war and knocking him from his horse just as he was about to be shot It has been many years since I read a book in the Brazos Series. I got confused by her appearing to Matt on the battlefield during the war and knocking him from his horse just as he was about to be shot, thereby saving his life. I was also confused when Matt appeared to her when he was reading a letter he has written for her and was reading it aloud.

    It seemed to me that this western novel was now becoming more of a paranormal western fiction with a heapin' side of romance. Where was the shoot 'em up western story, like I read in the first three books? I found myself to be disappointed with this.

    The second half of the book focuses on Matt and Steve training Jesse James and his gang to be better outlaws. I'm not sure exactly why Matt would help out Jesse James to become a better gunfighter with military knowledge when he knew that Jesse was a criminal. As for the time on the Bar M Ranch outside of Waco, Texas, I really enjoyed that part of the story, especially when Matt and his fellow cowboys went after the cattle rustlers.
