    Splendid stories and so atmospheric. Many seem extremely familiar as concepts and whole plots have influenced a host of horror and suspense writing since this collection was penned.

I don't really understand why they broke down the book into three parts - the original book contained five short stories so it has to be assumed that the last two were released separately. I really enjoyed the three stories featured, they all have a common theme yet are com Three of Five This volume contains the first three short stories of 'In a Glass Darkly'.

    I really enjoyed the three stories featured, they all have a common theme yet are completely different to one another. As with all of Le Fanu's work they are atmospheric, compelling and gently spooky. Exactly what a Gothic horror fan wants!

    I've always thought that Le Fanu has been grossly undervalued as a Gothic horror writer. Yet mention Le Fanu and many have not heard of him, even though he was a contemporary of Dickens. Personally some may find this blasphemous I prefer Le Fanu's work over Dickens' horror stories. They have more depth to them and I just enjoy his style of writing. So - if you are a fan of the genre - I would definitely recommend any of Le Fanu's work. Jan 29, I Jenkins rated it liked it.
