I was left wondering if the author understood what a healthy, committed, and trusting relationship actually looks like. Major life changing decisions are not just made without any consultation of the other person -- at least not in relationships that have a chance of lasting.

The whole point of the book was around a person who made selfish choices without regard for the persons they cared for. Yes, the ending was not reflecting a dangerous or risky choice and was noble but it still did not reflect a relationship that was cherished and the other person. This coupled with the fact that I didn't necessarily buy the love between Scarlet and Tarin left me underwhelmed.

Yes, both characters needed to work on themselves but Casey never allowed the audience to see how they worked and grew together. The only thing that worked was Scott. I would read a book about him -- perhaps this is because he appeared to be the only authentic character in the story. One person found this helpful. I downloaded this book thinking it'd be just another silly romance that I could read, discard and forget.

Romance novels are pretty much my brain candy; something I pick up when I need yes need to read something but don't want to think. I probably spent about 5 seconds reading the book description, shrugged my shoulders and downloaded it with 3 other books. I read a couple of the others and then pulled this one up, half asleep and started to read. With every page I woke up a little more and knew that this book wasn't at all what I thought it would be.

There were definitely a few things that were a little unbelievable and pulled me out of the story, and I did spend some of the book a little confused how old were these people, how long had she been helping people, how unprofessional they were, etc. This book made me feel. So much so that I dragged myself out of my sick bed bronchitis, uck because I needed to let other people know that they should go buy this book and read it seriously, go do it.

I've spent the whole review talking about myself and how I feel and not about the book, but do you really want me to tell you what's in the book? Is that the important part? I hate spoilers and I'm not going to give you any; besides It also made me do a little bit of self reflection and while I'm not happy about that at all Elle Casey, this is one I'm going to remember and coming from someone who reads and forgets way too much Overall the book was disappointing. I liked the promise of the cover, the unique idea of the story, and the book sample was pretty strong in the first few chapters that introduced Scarlet's character, her job and the emotional conflict.

But after that, it just fell apart for me, mainly bc of the way the pacing of the rest of story didn't allow the readers to really connect with the characters and make the relationship believable. I don't have a problem with characters having sex on the first date or early on if the attraction is well developed, but I feel like her attraction to him was based on his similarities to her deceased ex at that point rather than him as an individual.

So, the sex wasn't as meaningful as I feel the author was trying to portray and certainly not strong enough to keep the attraction going after she's beaten up by one of his crazed fans and then flees halfway across the US after finding out his connection to her ex's death. Also, Tarin's character wasn't very well defined with the limited first person POV.

And then once they were supposed to truly be together, there's a 4-month time skip before they jump into more angst and then a quick HEA ending. I feel the author missed an opportunity during that 4-months to develop their relationship without the past ghost of her ex affecting them to make the relationship and ending more believable.

If the timeline of events had been extended a bit longer and there was more meaningful relationship development in between and also during the 4-month time skip, then this story would have been a lot stronger. A Masterful tell about the lives of the rich and famous!
