    I have read this when I was a kid. I was very impressed not by the story. As it isn't the known kind of adventures that Jules Verne wrote but by the language of the book. Greece, , six years after the Greek Revolution has begun. The Greeks are fighting against the Turks who have been ruling greek territory for about years. An obnoxious pirate comes between a couple in love, soon to be married.

    The pirate's mother disowns him, ashamed of his connections with the Turks. Ships are roaming the Aegean Sea, either fighting for or against pirates and enemy ships. Lots of descriptions of Greek landscape and name-dropping of islands. This is definitely not one of th Greece, , six years after the Greek Revolution has begun.

    This is definitely not one of the masterpieces Jules Verne is famous for. As a Greek, it was easy for me to follow details on Greek history and geography that Verne proudly uses to show his knowledge of the country. Yet, someone who is not familiar with these elements might find these details boring and useless concerning the story and the characters. I would not recommend it to someone who is not somehow involved in Greek history.

    Besides, the characters don't really evolve over the story.

OMG, it could should have ended when Henry rescues Hadjine, it would have been perfect, but I'm actually thankful for the last ten pages because I absolutely hated Starkos If you like happy endings that went through a lot to be happy, you should definitely read this.
