Frost writes characters that are easy to like. Mencheres, on the other hand, is dark, otherworldly, powerful, and incredibly sexy. Though I liked the characters and thought they worked well together, they simply lacked chemistry. Though there are many positives within the story, the simple truth is that it was hard for me to delve into the story with my full, undivided attention.

I liked it, but would take breaks to read other books, which is never a good sign. In fact, I look forward to it. Mar 07, Paranormal Romance rated it liked it Shelves: While on a trip to Romania, the heroine discovers and intervenes on a party than intended to murder the occupants. And though she was able to save a lot of kids, some, like Mary, did not escape unharmed. Now back in New Orleans, the heroine continues her psychology practice and convincing confused teenage kids that ' vampires' are not real and it's unhealthy to want to be one. Life in the magical city is good. She's surrounded by friends. But, something evil is coming.

She can feel it in the air While on a trip to Romania, the heroine discovers and intervenes on a party than intended to murder the occupants. She can feel it in the air. The instant attraction between them could be called unnerving as it's powerful and consuming. The hero, a hansom and intelligent professor is in town for a few lectures he's hosting at the university regarding ancient mythology and lore.

She can tell by looking at him that he is holding secrets but she too keeps her own secrets tight to her chest so she can't really blame him. But she knows she can't trust him.

She's no-nonsense and smart, with a troubled past and tough life circumstances, but possessing a strong will to survive. I really liked that Kira didn't wait to be saved in this book, she did what she needed to and she kicked ass too! They can be killed, traded, used, etc.

Especially because she's not positive he's not involved with the evil come to town. As time passes, she's aware that Mary and her friends have become a target for a deadly and ancient enemy, one brought to them through the heroine's connection. She tries to convince everyone that vampires are myth but she herself in fact is a vampire though a 'good' one.

Still, the risk that Mary will become a monster is a high one because the one called the Master will use everything in his disposal to get to the heroine. It's during this tense time of anticipating the enemies next move that the hero's true profession comes to light.

He's a vampire hunter and a damn good one. The kind and sweet professor is actually a ruthless assassin who believes the only good vampire is a dead one. Still, when he realizes the heroine is one of these so called monsters, his feelings for her confuse his belief system.

How can this beautiful woman be a monster? Still, it will require everything in them to finally put an end to the terror of the Master. I appreciated the fact that this book was suspenseful and very vampire horror more so than vampire romance. Though the heroine is a vampire, it doesn't come to light until far into the book and that too was a nice surprise. I'm sure those who have read the previous books in the series will have known this spoiler but I was quite shocked. Because it was never hinted at and the fact that she's able to go out in the sun is a great cover.

She also spends most of the book trying to convince people vampires aren't real while all the while knowing for a fact they are. The mood was well done and the sense of tension was constant and the threat of danger ever present. There was a lot of different POV going on and while they all tied up to complete the plotline, I prefer to have more focus on the characters development.

I didn't feel a lot of emotional connection to either the hero or heroine because very little time was spent on seeing inside their emotions. If they weren't having passion and intense sex then they were basically closed off from the reader while the focus was turned to the suspense.

Start by marking “Kiss of Darkness (Alliance Vampires, #7)” as Want to Read: Between the presence of vampires and the mysterious attractions between characters, Kiss of Darkness by Heather Graham might help satisfy your preferences while you wait for another Shannon Drake book.

I was looking for more on that aspect. But over all I enjoyed this book. The hero was a ruthless badass hunter by the end who hid his intense hatred for vampires quite well for most of the plot.

Kiss Of Darkness

In fact it did kick start into over drive once Mary awoke as a vampire and the hero and heroine realizes they were fighting the same enemy. Good book, wanted more emotional romance to go with the physical but the plot was interesting and the mood was dark and delightful.

The prologue was confusing and the characters were hard to keep up with, so following along was a task. Then she jumps into modern times with a psychologist who I think is just that. But as the novel progresses the author drops these huge bombs right into the story with no warning whatsoever. All of a This was bad writing, plain and simple. Out of freaking nowhere this happens and I am thrown for a loop! Then the third bomb is dropped that Jessica is a vampire.

And then it just goes on and on. All of a sudden Jessica is the being she claimed not to believe in, she was the woman we read about in the beginning and had no idea it was her, her friends all know what she is and have known for years. It lacked substance in every department. It was like a kindergartener read this thing with no grammar teaching at all and sent it to publishing.

Dark 1x05: Jonas & Martha #2 [Jonas & Martha's first kiss]

There for a while it seemed like every page had some kind of error that would jolt me away from the reading as I tried to piece together what it was supposed to say. The story was so monotonous. Literally the same thing would happen over and over and over. Jessica would see the students at the hospital, and then go back to her house. Bryan would see the students at the hospital, and then go back to her house. Finally they left the hospital, only to have Jessica send them to her office. Bryan would go to her office, then leave. And you could bet that if she sent them to the office, she would go home and an attack would happen at her office.

If she sent them to her house she would be somewhere else and the attack would happen at her house.

So infuriating having the characters be late for every attack. She spent as much time with the side characters as she did with the main characters, which annoys the crap out of me. The author kept switching back and forth to them and chopping off scenes. The main characters are supposed to take center stage, not get bombarded by all the side crap. I HATE romance novels where the authors can't handle writing the romance. It was lukewarm at best. This novel was one mechanism where the author played her card the entire time, just milked it for all it was worth.

The Master was the villain and she teased readers with tiny skirmishes here and there where the characters would break apart, sleep, and then go out looking. It was all very passive. For someone with a task to kill the most evil being on the planet, they sure took a lot of breaks. I have to say it again, it was such bad writing. Aug 17, Joyce rated it liked it Shelves: I read this series out of order so when the plot jumped I was not ready for it. Up until about halfway it didn't matter and even after they explained a lot.

But I am intrigued enough to go back a book or two in the series. Rave parties are being set up by vampires to feed on.

It seems the Master vampire is actually trying to get the main character Jessica's attention. She got away from him many times over the years and he will kill all those she loves to get to her. The romance is fairly predica I read this series out of order so when the plot jumped I was not ready for it. The romance is fairly predicable and so is the story but a fun read nonetheless Aug 24, Linda rated it liked it.

I have read of lot of Heather Graham's books but this was the first one about Vampires and it was just not what I like to read. The story was written well and if you like vampires, you will enjoy it. May 21, Michelle Balsillie rated it liked it. Nothing overly great or bad about this book.
