Apocalypse Better Call Saul: Season 4 Castle Rock: Season 1 The Deuce: Season 2 Fear the Walking Dead: Season 3 The Walking Dead: That pretty much sums up the tenor of this investigatory drama, wherein an enigmatic fortune teller Jean Kent is murdered.
The police track down the five most likely suspects and start asking questions. Each suspect offers a different perspective on the murdered woman, and each provides a vital clue towards solving the killing.
This "prismatic" technique was of course the foundation of Citizen Kane; while The Woman in Question is not in Kane's league, its gimmick holds the audience's attention whenever director Anthony Asquith allows the pace to lag. Jean Kent as Astra. Dirk Bogarde as Bob Baker.
John McCallum is a hot-tempered sailor. Hermione Baddeley is the victim's landlady. Duncan McRae is the Superintendent in charge of the case. The story unravels beautifully. They don't do them like this any longer and of course Anthony Asquith cannot do anything wrong.
In this British mystery drama directed by Anthony Asquith, police interview the five principle suspects in the murder of Astra Jean Kent , an enigmatic fortune teller. Set in a small British village, an investigation has been launched after a fortune-teller named Astra is found murdered.
The Woman in Question is a British mystery film directed by Anthony Asquith and starring Jean Kent, Dirk Bogarde and John McCallum. After a woman is. Susan Shaw. A woman is murdered, but she is seen in different ways by different people. The Woman in Question (original title). Approved | 1h 28min.
One of these five did murder Astra, who done it? These 50's British films are starting to grow on me. I guess this movie sort of a combination of Noir paired with Crime Drama.
Tons of shadows, tons of smoke, and tons sleazy characters. Here our erstwhile detective reasons out who killed our woman in question by interviewing all who had come into contact within the last 24 hours of her life.
Susan Shaw as Catherine. My favorite was Mrs. John McCallum as Murray. Local detectives Fellows and Wilks lead an investigation methodically following up leads and clues mostly in Brighton and Two teachers, man-hungry Doris and restrained Marian, visit the Yorkshire moors a year after friend Evelyn disappeared there. Add the first question. Chase a Crooked Shadow
While not exactly a nail biter I imagine any fan of crime drama figured out the perp long before the detective it was still a very enjoyable movie. This came out the same year as 'Rashomon', and I love the idea of being presented with different perspectives by letting different characters tell the same story. The solution to the mystery might not be stunning, but the way the story is told is absolutely brilliant.
Serviceable British noir in the style of Rashomon. A woman Jean Kent. The detectives investigating the case interview a number of witnesses. With each, a very different portrait of the victim emerges. Wonderfully acted by a great cast with sharp dialog, a film worth anyone's time.
The "Rashomon" treatment expands the intrigue and forces consideration of others' viewpoints and how emotion can play a powerful role in what we remember. It's beautifully shot and tautly directed.
A winner all around. Fairly standard murder mystery enlivened by a 'Rashomon'-like multiple perspective approach.
