If you cherished the Walkenbach's book for years and were longing for the advanced part to follow some day, you are there. So what if it is by different author. Once I got the book and browsed through for couple of hours I already was eager to share my excitement. And I am still impressed immensely. This is an outstanding book Buy the book even just for Chapter Combining Excel and Visual Basic 6. The rumors about the death of VB6 are highly exaggerated.

Even if you believe otherwise, the techniques described for using VB forms in VBA will give you a good grasp how to achieve the same thing with other languages. If you are a power user and would like to stay in confines of Excel and VBA, then most probably Walkenbach's book will be sufficient, although reading this book will give you an incentive to do more. This book is on a different level than all other Excel development books. It starts off with the not so crazy assumption that Excel may be the best development platform available today,the rest of the book goes a long way in showing you why that may be true.

Everything from worksheet UI design to creating components using VB6 is included. The only subject given less coverage than it deserves is Data Access, but there are plenty of other books for that. If you're serious in using Excel as a programming platform, buy two copies-1 for your office and 1 to keep at home. This book is not for beginner's. However, if you are an advanced user, I would strongly recommend it. It will save you hours of searching and reading useless Excel discussion forums.

This book was written in but all of the material still applies to current versions of excel. Buy this book because you want to be able to use VBA to help you at work. I wrote a program to automatically generate and send reports via email - about of them - and my boss was in awe. They use your program like any stand-alone application.

Lists with This Book. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. A bit overwhelming with all the information in this book but definitely worth the read. I'll be going back into when I implement a lot of his ideas. I think that it would be cool to have some level of knowledge on coding "tricks", but if the start point is a platform so unreliable and unstable as MICROSOFT Excel, then we are not prone to good things. All that said, it is not the book's fault that I don't like Excel, so an additional argument for the low rating ought to exist; and here it is: A message in the direction of "Excel is the best tool if only you knew to take better advantage of it".
