This book was good and applicable but I felt like her writing style was a bit archaic. I would definitely recommend many other devotionals before this one. May 11, Colin Campbell rated it it was amazing. I cannot count how many times I opened this book to find it speak exactly to my spiritual need at that very time. For this alone it earns its place for me among the 'gold, silver and precious stones' of devotional literature.
Feb 05, Alicia rated it it was ok. I'm surprised I didn't like this more, but it felt disjointed to me. Carmichael's usage of several different Bible versions was jarring. There wasn't a coherent connection between devotional thoughts. Plus the prayers at the end of each devotion were written by a different author and did not flow either. I appreciate Carmichael's writing and life experience, but recommend you to read her booklet titled "If".

Sadly, she is listed as the author on the page and I guess I just missed it? The book is a nicely printed normal paperback book and the thoughts in it are mostly good.
If you are looking for a short daily devotional with someone's one page thoughts on a few sentences of something Amy Carmichael wrote then this is the book for you.
If you are looking for an actual book to read about the life of Ms. Carmichael then I suggest you look elsewhere. I would have returned this book but it would have cost about as much to return as I spent to buy it, so I have read portions.
A few of the short bits have blessed me and the thoughts are positive so I will give it 4 stars given I must have not read the description well enough. I have every Amy Carmichael book that was written Then you will appreciate the devotions in this book. Love, love, love the contents of this small book.

Beautifully written and thoughtfully presented. Amy Carmichael speaks to the inmost soul and draws one so much closer to the Lord she loves. This 40 day devotional helps us to take the focus off from ourself even in the most challenging situations.
Amy's back accident caused much pain, but she challenged herself to continually turn her eys to the grace and mercy of our Lord. It's sometime easy to say ok this is what the Lord has given me to carry and I accept it, but it's another thing to see all the beauty and blessing He bestows on us through the trials. I believe this devotional helps us to do just that. If you are looking to draw closer to the Lord, this is the book for you! I will be reading it again and again. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase.
