Hope the Slayers are next. Can't wait to read their stories! Great love story with perfect bits of action to spice things up. Feb 28, Erica rated it it was amazing. I utterly enjoyed every engrossing moment in this book!!! Made it to the last book so far and I was in utter awe as to how this played out. The action packed scenes were sensational, so full of detail and vivid imagery.
I loved Joseph he has been an interesting character from the start so impressive and with such potential. Lyka was a bit annoying I just wanted to shake her and tell her look what you have got!!!! But I loved that she worked through it I utterly enjoyed every engrossing moment in this book!!!
But I loved that she worked through it and found her happy ever after for now at least. All up I cant believe it is over until another installment comes out which Im hoping will be sometime this year. I loved every minute I spent with Joseph and Lyka. Cannot wait for more. Mar 04, Sandy S rated it it was amazing. Release Date March 3, They are the Sentinels. The Sentinels are three races descended from an ancient race of guardians known as the Athanasians, who defend and protect mankind from the demons at the door.
The Synestryn have killed most of the female Theronai and the warriors are in need of women whose DNA and heritage will match with their own: Shannon is an author who builds up future storylines in many of the previous novels. The accord offers a member of each race in exchange for peace and understanding. Lyka believes she is nothing more than a prisoner in a gilded cage.
What ensues are several demon attacks, a near death experience for both Joseph and Lyka, and the revelation that someone is controlling the demons-behind the scenes. Ronan, the Sanguinar and Theronai healer, perseveres in his search for the woman who saved his life. This woman is familiar to Ronan but he is unable to place her identity or the nature of the battle she fights within herself. Connal is still missing and his actions have caused a rift between the Sanguinars and the human feeders who once opened their homes as safe houses for the warriors and healers.
There are moments of anger and betrayal; lust and need; romance and love. But there are also times that romance on the run can be difficult when facing the demons who want to destroy your life. There is always something or someone waiting on the other side. Finding The Lost 3. Binding Ties Copy supplied by the publisher through Netgalley. Feb 24, Mirely rated it it was ok Shelves: Probably my least favorite of the series. I pretty much agree with all the other well-written reviews on here. Hoping the next one won't feature a female lead that I'd want to strangle in real life Please note this one was pretty dark and it might be considered a trigger to some.
Mar 03, Shirley Bennett rated it it was amazing. Absolutely awesome- not to be missed!! Dec 12, Ken Liljengren rated it really liked it.
Thank You Ms Butcher This was good! Any chance for some more books in this series? I've been waiting for awhile now, lol. Apr 15, Dark Faerie Tales rated it really liked it Shelves: When the Slayer encampment is attacked, Joseph and Lyka must work together to find a group of children taken by the Synestryn in this entertaining addition to the Sentinel Wars series. As leader of the Theronai, Joseph has pledged to look after his people to the best of his ability. It also means he may as well give up hope of ever finding a Theronai woman compatible with him before his lifemark deteriorates beyond the point of no return.
While this is, of course, disappointing, Joseph has come to terms with it. Lyka wants one thing and one thing only — to be able to come and go from Dabyr as she pleases. When her brother arrives with news of an attack on their people, she sees her chance. Desperate to save the Slayers captured by the Synestryn, Lyka spills her secret to Joseph and ties herself to him.
Now, they must work together to figure out where the Slayers are. The big question is, will Joseph be able to let her go? And for the most part, the book delivered. The plot was fast-paced and action packed. The one drawback for me was Lyka. For a good chunk of the book, she was just really unlikeable.
I had sympathy for her situation, not really feeling like she belonged with either the Slayers or the Theronai, but her constant whining about wanting to leave Dabyr made a lot of my sympathy dry up. Part of me definitely feels that Joseph deserves better. Other than my issues with our heroine, I greatly enjoyed the rest of the book. The overall plot with the Synestryn was solid, as it usually is in this series. The main villain was suitably creepy and dark, and I definitely wanted to see her get her comeuppance by the end.
My favorite part of this series has always been the overall storyline, and that continues to be very interesting to me here. I really wish I had liked Lyka more because of how much I love Joseph, but despite my issues with her, I still enjoyed the book. The second he was through the glass doors leading outside, he saw her. As always, Lyka drew his complete attention, glowing like sunshine incarnate.
As he watched her talking to the kids, the searing pressure behind his eyes began to fade. There was something magical about a beautiful woman, and Lyka was about as beautiful as they came. Every move she made was filled with the sinuous grace of her kind. She took after her mother, showing off decidedly feline attributes beyond her catlike eyes. There was an alertness about her — a kind of intense awareness of the people around her. He liked looking at her too much for her to know he was doing so. He only wished he could find a way to stop wanting her. Originally posted at SmexyBooks- http: Binding Ties, 9 in Shannon K.
Butcher intertwines new and past plotlines and stories to allow a smooth flowing time line and series progression. For this reason alone I recommend you Originally posted at SmexyBooks- http: For this reason alone I recommend you start the series at the beginning. Set on modern Earth, a raging battle reigns between good and evil is being fought right under our noses. Violence and romance go hand in hand as warriors called Sentinels Theronai and their allies fight to save mankind against Synestryns demons while struggling to locate their soul mates before they die.
Add in some vampires, aliens, and what nots and you have an alternate Earth world storyline that engages and defies some boundaries. Lyka Phelan is a human Slayer enemy to the Theronai who was traded as a hostage in order to secure a peace treaty. A warrior all her life, she now resides in a gilded cage and resents every minute of it. She fights her bonds every second of the day, refusing to intermingle with the residents of the Theronai compound-especially its leader, Joseph.
Joseph, leader of the Theronai, spends more time behind a desk then in battle with his men. Though he is massively attracted between to Lyka, he knows nothing can come of it. He, like his men, is dying and only a Theronai woman can save him. Both are strong, loyal, intelligent people who feel their way is the best way. Compromise is not a word they seem to understand. I felt Butcher over reached on developing both characters, creating and dragging out unnecessary friction.
She comes off petty and juvenile at times; making stupid mistakes that almost kill them both repeatedly. Joseph, on the other hand, was so perfect, he was a caricature of the ruthless man portrayed in earlier books. Though the intense chemistry is apparent from first meeting, Butcher uses a multitude of plot devices to keep them apart until the time is right for them. The action packed scenes gave the story the edge it needed from becoming a total loss for me. Butcher takes some necessary action concerning the demons; expanding on their end game.
A more in depth look at their world is given but I was dismayed a little by the path Butcher appears to be taking concerning their behavior. One aspect of this series that has kept me coming back is the gray area the different factions walk in. Every group has an agenda and each will do whatever is necessary for their group to triumph.
Past character interactions and clues to future couples let us know book ten will definitely be unique. I did miss the light humor that has been a frequent asset to the series as it is always a nice buffer against the overall seriousness of this series. The ending is the usual dramatic undertaking that resolves the main conflict and smashes through the last romance barrier. I find it becoming repetitive over all, conflicts introduced for no other reason then arc advancement, and the characters, especially the heroines, more and more unlikable.
Feb 07, Debbie Lester rated it really liked it. Butcher returns with her ninth book in the Sentinel Wars series, Binding Ties. Readers who are familiar with the series know that the last book, Willing Sacrifice was a departure not only from Butcher's usual style, but from the core group of characters that have populated the series. Readers will be happy that Butcher has returned to series roots and that this book is much lighter novel as compared to the last one.
This isn't a series I would recommend reading out of order due to the Shannon K. This isn't a series I would recommend reading out of order due to the complex and interwoven storylines. A great new addition to the series. Butcher is an author that I really, really wanted to like because I am such a huge fan of her husband, Jim Butcher's writing. I started this series in the middle which was a disadvantage.
I think the reader needs all of the interconnected story's to keep it all straight.
I am always looking forward to finding out what happened to this or that character along the way. See full terms and conditions and this month's choices. But now he has no choice other than to help her. There are too many rules with odd exceptions that were extremely difficult to understand. I wasn't sure that I liked her at first, really started to dislike her when we found out that while she was teaching the kids to fight they were getting hurt, however when she explained why she taught like she did. I felt like he deserved it because he seemed like an extremely selfless and kindhearted man. Probably my least favorite of the series.
You really miss a lot if you don't read it from the beginning. Especially when you have a book like Willing Sacrifice, that is completely out sequence with the series.
Binding Ties gets the series back on track, but it does have it's issues. There is quite a bit to keep straight with this series. The three groups of sentinel's that are basically the good guys, but they tend to fight among themselves. Then you have the bad guys, the Synestern and so many side stories and characters that it reminds me of a high fantasy series that generally includes a map and a family tree That's not to say that I don't like it, because I do. It's just a bit complicated and that might turn off some readers. But I love all the nuances and interwoven tales.
I am always looking forward to finding out what happened to this or that character along the way. It's a great series, but I think the heroines of late have been a little flat. The hero's are still right where we need them to be, but I want more out of the women in this series. Joseph is the leader of one of the sentinel groups, the Theroni. He is a great hero, not only because he is handsome and all that, but because of the heart he has for his people. He is dedicated and resourceful. But Lyka may be his undoing.
I had some issues with this heroine right out of the gate. Lyka has a sassy attitude, but it can steer a little close to bossy and demanding at times. She just doesn't fit my idea of a woman that should end up with someone as great as Joseph. She made poor decisions, she was full hardy and didn't have the interests of the Theroni people at heart, which I guess is normal, considering she is a Slayer. But, wanted more from her and just didn't get it. I did however like the fact that she wanted to save her brother, that was a bit redeeming considering the rest of her escapades.
As usual, Butcher gives readers a complicated, but highly entertaining storyline. She offers up a great hero, that readers will fall in love with easily, but she lacks a little when it comes to the heroine. Strong female leads can be hard to write. I think Butcher is up to the task and I love everything else about her writing. I hope the next heroine is still badass, but not too domineering and inflexible. Mar 05, Barb Lie rated it it was amazing. Binding Ties by Shannon K. Butcher is the 9th book in her fantastic Sentinel Wars series.
For those who have not read this series, this blurb on the back cover gives you enough to understand what it is all about.
