Some of these were like Wattpad stories it got that bad at times , but the stories "A Trick of the Light" and "Erased" there is a bit more but these were my faves made this book a three-star! Jun 22, Rjeyna Vaillancourt rated it really liked it. I liked nearly all of these stories. I think my favorite section was "ghosts". A great book to take camping and read around the fire! Oct 25, Emma Butler rated it it was amazing Shelves: Feb 07, Petra rated it it was ok.

This is a collection of horror stories that are not related to each other whatsoever. Obviously, there are good ones and bad ones, but if you are a huge fan of horror anthologies like me, you're not going to regret reading this. As mentioned here in comment section, "I'd still recommend picking it up as the really good ones make the rest worth it". When I first read this book I was considerably younger and I enjoyed it more maybe because later I realized that this book's target audience is YA The title and cover are a little bit dumb, though, I agree. They have nothing to do with the actual content of the book.

Eleven chilling tales from the emerging new talent of horror writer Akasha Savage. A twilight world of haunted houses, cursed money, deals with the devil, and a. Here's my review of each story: The Legend of Anna Barton better, but predictable. Saving Face Well written. I enjoyed reading this, but I found the ending very silly and unsatisfying If You Knew Suzie This was nice. I like that the author incorporated a native american culture and superstitions into the story, but I have a feeling that I didn't fully understand what the ending was supposed to mean. Or she was reincarnated in the body of Rebecca?

Or was it Suzie? Slam Dance Very Death Note-y. A Trick of the Light This story, man.

Also the descriptions of the another realm were very convincing, graphic and evoked a lot of feelings. I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. One of my favorite stories of the book. Erased Another outstanding story. This story is about a girl that after a very cold bath in the lake finds herself in an alternative reality where she simply doesn't exist, never has. Her boyfriend's dating her BFF, her parents don't have any children, she has nowhere to go. And the scariest part? Nobody recognizes her, she has no home, the feeling of being lost and having no place on Earth is strong with this one.

I just find this idea particularly scary and frightening. The idea that something like that would happen to me is petrifying, and there is not much we could do about it, really But there is also a subtle hint that leaves the reader a little bit unsure Incident Report I didn't get this story at all. Scapegoat Literally the most predictable story ever. It opens with a main protagonist, young high-school girl, an outcast. First, there are animals dying all around her, later there are murders. She finds blood on her shoes and a weapon in her drawer and is really surprised.

She claims that it is her friend that did this and later when she obviously kills her the manslaughter doesn't stop, she still thinks that she is a victim and so on and so on. Very reader-friendly, relatable - the characters do what normal people would do - and as the story unfolds, an ever-lasting terror starts to appear. Very good, chilling story. Klein didn't disappoint me. Grandma Kelly Dynamic, thrilling, exciting. The story is written in present tense which only adds to the dynamicity. A nice plot twist in the end.

Shelter Island Classic gothic vampire romance with a little bit underwhelming ending. Jan 16, michael white rated it liked it. Some of these are very good, others aren't worth reading. I'd still recommend picking it up as the really good ones make the rest worth it. Jan 15, Ashley rated it did not like it. Was disappointing from beginning to end. Each story read as a small section of a bigger story. Nov 25, Jessica rated it liked it Shelves: The Number of the Beast is written by multiple authors and composed of different short stories.

Each short story either talks about evilness, darkness, or beasts. Out of the short stories in this book, there are three which are my most favorite. My favorite one is Shelter Island by Melissa de la Cruz. In this short story, it talks about a girl who lives on an island and one day she noticed that there is a boy at the side of her bed.

After talking to him, she realized that he is a vampire fr After talking to him, she realized that he is a vampire from long ago and hiding from a beast who is trying to drink his blood. At the end, he takes a little dose of her blood because he is weak, leaving her unconscious. This short story was my favorite one because it reminds me of her two books from the Blue Bloods series Blue Bloods and Masquerade by the style and the idea used.

In addition, it made me want to know what happen to the girl and the vampire afterwards because it was so short.

The last short story that I like is Haunted by Ellen Schreiber because later in the story it gave an unexpected twist. Haunted talks about Amber and her parents going to a little haunted apartment for vacation when one night she meets Austin, a boy who she suspects is a ghost. Yet, it seems so real to me that she is human with emotions and feelings. Besides these few short stories, I thought that overall, the book was not really what I had expected to be because I had imagined it to be more scary and creepy when it was not.

May 10, Jennifer Wardrip rated it liked it Shelves: In Peter Abrahams' story, Becky wishes she had never gotten sick and stayed home. Once she turned on her TV, a certain show becomes all too real. Twins Jane and Jill have been the best of sisters, or at least that is what Jill thought. Turns out her sister isn't so happy with the wonderful life Jill has right now and can't wait to see her drop dead, literally.

Soon enough, Jane comes up with the perfect plan to make sure that only one sister is able to lead the perfect life. Christopher Pike takes us on a journey of what being a twin could possibly be like. Robin Wasserman creates Parker Kent, a girl who others don't really like. She finally thought she had made a friend, a best friend, but before she knows it the friend turns on her. It's okay, though, since that friend never liked her in the first place, right? Fifteen more chilling stories complete this anthology of eighteen authors with their very own original works.

Accompanied by a frightening cover and an outrageous title, Feb 17, Bhakta Kishor rated it liked it Shelves: This book is an anthology of fictional chilling stories being grouped together. The book also guarantees that the stories engaged in it will terrorize the readers and keep them on the edge of the seat.

But, I did not find the stories on average are terrifying. For instance, pick out the story The little sacrifice. As you see, it is a short story, only four pages long. But as if you read it, you will laugh out of it. There is nothing a bit scary or terrific.

Yow will seek nothing in this stor This book is an anthology of fictional chilling stories being grouped together. Yow will seek nothing in this story except overly-purple language and confusing metaphors. The manner in which stories are gathered in the book was like someone took a bunch of random short stories and threw them together without reading them. Oct 29, Aurora Dimitre rated it it was ok Shelves: But some of these short stories were so bad that I didn't even love them for being bad.

Not to say all of these were bad. I mean, Christopher Pike's never going to be bad, he's just wonderful at the cheesy 'bad' horror novels in a way that makes them still enjoyable and still readable and has some images stick in your head for years after reading them. But most of them were just bad. Like I said, not all of them. And some of them read like urban legends or creepypastas, which was kind of cool. There were a few real gems. But for the most part Jan 24, Christine rated it liked it.

Overall, not that great of a collection. I guess that should have been clear by the title, but I did like a few stories Saving Face by Christopher Pike was entirely believable, and that's scary. Empire of Dirt by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes was incredible, and so cool since it was in an asylum. Also, Sassy was an awesome character. I'm so glad he reappears in Persistence of Memory Scapegoat by Robin Wasserman was also crazily believable, and completely heartbreaking.

Klein was creepy, but somewhat enjoyable. Haunted by Ellen Schriber was surprising and adorable. Wolfsbane by Sarah Hines Stephens was surprising and pretty cool Not the best end, but it was really funny. The rest were creepy and had downer endings. Apr 16, Julia rated it really liked it Shelves: I happened to pick this book up in a library one day, and after reading one of the stories checked it out immediately. Some of the stories were well written and some less so, but most had me hooked. It had a great base for a plot, and was one of the only stories that actually had me really scared.

There was the right balance of suspense and plot development, and the ending was unexpected but not unbelievable. Another excell I happened to pick this book up in a library one day, and after reading one of the stories checked it out immediately. The main character, Sassy, was funny and believable, and the plot was creative and engaging. Overall, the well written stories outweighed the others, and its a book I would definitely recommend to others.

Mar 02, GracieKat rated it liked it Shelves: It was an ok book. I'm assuming it's a YA title as it is published by Point but I noticed that quite a few of them were written by writers of the adult genres. On a sidebar, growing up I really liked Christopher Pike but as I got older his writing struck me as really forced, like an adult trying to sound like a teenager.

I started reading it fom empire of dirt by amelia atwater and thought it was interestnig the story of sassy. I dont understand why the book is considered to be under amelia atwaters name. Although i do love her books it is unfair to think that she was the one who wrote this book when 17 other extraordinary authors were included. Loved many of the short stories, especially scapegoat, imagining things and shelter island!

Cant wait to finish the book! Jan 31, Lucy Arden rated it did not like it.

Calling 666 by Akasha Savage #BookReview

The stories were extremely short, and while that was expected with so many authors crammed into one anthology, there was zero depth to each story! Most ended on cliffhangers that didn't make any sense because the stories weren't continued. I got bored halfway through this book and gave up. Please, unless you're a die-hard fan of all of the authors mentioned in this book, don't bother to pick it up. It's not worth your time. Mar 02, Alyssa Minor rated it liked it. This book consists of various stories. I personally didn't like this book because you could predict the endings.

Not all the stories were good. None of the stories really stood out. I chose this book because I have an interest in supernatural and murder stories.

Two of them were very reminiscent of Stephen King's earlier stories. But I would say that the author was influenced by him rather than outright trying to do a blatant rip-off. I would recommend it. May 03, Craig Hallam rated it liked it. They're easy to read and entertaining.
