The only problem I ran into so far with Word for Dummies was there was no instruction on how to Delete a File that I could find. Usually that is on the drop drop menu for File, but not on Word I went to Windows 7 for Dummies and found the answer there. It is a Windows Function I guess instead of Word, which is where you would expect it to be as it has been in the past.
It involves right clicking something, which I never would have guessed.
I use the for Dummies books as quick references with the index and, if necessary, the chapter headings. Never read one clear through. The down load has its advantages. I ordered the hard copy of this rather than the download so I could flip pages back and forth easily. The down load has its advantages, too. I have used the Dummies for Word book since the mid's as I not only needed to use the Word programs, but trained new employees in its use.
Having started my word processing using the original Word; then Word for Windows; then Word 95, 98, 03, 03 and Word , all I can say is if your office productivity relies on a great word processing program, keep your old Word program. The book is great and very factual, but the Word program is not an up-grade. It's one complicated mess.
This is a very comprehensive manual for using MS Word. Such works are most useful as a resource to use when you need it. Unfortunately, like most of its kin, it lacks a really comprehensive index. The more comprehensive a reference is, the more important is the index.

This will make sure all of your records from the spreadsheet are being added to the mail merge. Double check one more time to make sure everything looks good. I am going to look at record 4 and make sure Lisa's apartment number shows up. I want to point out that my document has pages for my addresses. Another thing I want to point out in the second image is that my page 2 is different so it is not Page 1 repeating times.
You are ready to print your labels!
The second way to insert the fields is to do it manually by selecting Insert Merge Field and then clicking on each field. When inserting the fields manually, do not forget about inserting the spaces, periods and commas.
You can also format the fields. In my example I made them centered and bold. You can also do that with the address block as in the previous example. Once you are happy with what the label looks like, it's time to click on the Update Labels button. Once they are updated, they should look something like this. Before you print the documents, click on Edit Individual Documents.
Make sure all records are selected and click OK. Double check your results to make sure extra fields are included and then you are ready to print! What if you want to include a return address on a postcard or a big shipping label? How do you do that? Return Address Labels Go back to step 4 to open up the Labels Option window. Select the label you want. Basically, if you want to include a return address you need to have enough space on the label — that's why I am selecting a postcard — I know it will have enough space for me to include the return address. You can format it however you want it make it bold, change the font, etc.
Do that for the entire first page of labels. In my example I only have 4 labels per page so I will have to do that 4 times.
This is creating a label template that then will be used to create the mail merge. If you want, you can also add an image to each label or some other information. Just remember to copy and paste it for each label on the first page.
