Winning Every Day: The Game Plan for Success by Lou Holtz

Winning Every Day is a book filled with life-lessons and ways to improve yourself. The book is separated by each individual story, but not necessarily in chronological order. Instead he grouped the stories by themes. The stories told throughout the book are very relatable for anyone not just coaches, or football players. After reading the reviews on the back of the book I had super high expectations that the book didn't live up to. Even though I was a little disappointed with the book I would still recommend it to others.

It could not have been said better. So if you feel like you lack self-motivation, "Winning every day" will go above and beyond to teach you how to truly win every day. This book proves that no matter what situation you are in, you can make your dreams come true as long as you are determined to put in the hard work. Dec 18, Brian rated it it was amazing. I love this book. It is like a page pep talk. This is a man who is not physically imposing, comes from a poor background, was a mediocre athlete, and succeeded spectacularly in the hyper-competitive world of college football. Throughout he was positive, compasionate, and true to his beliefs.

There is also not an ounce of pretention in the man. Feb 20, Eric rated it really liked it. I was surprisingly captivated by his insight. He sure doesn't look like a football guy. His style of breaking thing down into short stories with little lessons made it enjoyable to read. After reading the book I can see why his teams were so successful.

When I heard he had a book, I rushed out to buy it, hoping that it would be just as good as he was in person. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

This book is basically a collection of stories that Lou Holtz shares with his audience in an attempt to pass onto them the key elements he believes are necessary to quote "win every day. Unfortunately, the stories that are told in this book begin to feel repetitive and extraneous very quickly. Some are really great - but they are hidden amongst lots of filler. Also hidden throughout the book are awesome quotes and really get the reader thinking.

Again unfortunately, these inspirational quotes share this book with many hackneyed and banal phrases that Holtz explains as if we haven't heard them a million times before. This book isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination - but it is a bit disappointing. I think that it would be better ready in little chunks - maybe 1 little story a night - instead of straight through.

I immensely admire Lou Holtz and definitely appreciate his advice. If given the opportunity, would definitely go to see him speak again - but I cannot say the same about my desire to read any more of his books. Jan 16, Derik LeCaptain added it. This is the first book of Lou Holtz's that I read. I must say that I was extremely impressed by how good the book is. I really enjoy when he tells about stories of big games that he won. It is not only a book about football it teaches you also a lot about attitude. Holtz's really focuses on how attitude is a direct reflection of a coach.

I would say that my favorite part of the book is when Holtz talks about his teams at south Carolina. They followed him and listend to him, and because of this he took a program to the top of college football.

I have read this book several times - and each time I gain something new from it. When my boss 1st told me about it 10 yrs ago, I said to him who is a football fanatic - "sounds like a great book but I have ZERO interest in football". He said "doesnt matter, you will still enjoy this book". I have bought this book for many peers over the years and they too enjoy Winning Every Day!

This book just talks about himself, not that great.

I really don't like how time and time again he refers to his coaching days. In my opinion, I do not see the meaning or point to this book. It very vague in some parts but does not catch a picky reader's eye. I give it 2 stars.
