Please try again later. I will be honest, I only read this book because a friend recommended it to me. I personally don't think I struggle talking to people, but more so enjoy it. I thought I knew everything there was to talking to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Larry King's book didn't necessarily prove me wrong, but it has definitely equipped me with even more tips and tricks to communicating better in all sorts of environments.

The book itself is an easy read and I enjoyed it for the most part, but being a person who does not really indulge in the lives of celebrities, I found it hard to connect with the reading at times. Otherwise I would say it's a good read. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I've read a number of books on communication and this was my second time around with Larry.

How to Talk to Anyone with Ease and Confidence

His friendly open demeanour you see on television absolutely comes through in the book, which makes it a pleasure to read. He doesn't introduce any earth shattering new techniques but it serves as a great primer or review. He doesn't introduce any arth shattering. I bought this as a birthday gift for a friend.

After listening to Larry on an episode of Tim Ferriss great podcast,I was driven to go back and read this title. It might be a little long in the tooth for the age of the book, it still has great meaning on the art of talk. Seems that a lot of people could brush up on this topic these days where talk comes in character limits. Not a useful book at all. He states the obvious, offers no substantive material for use by the reader, and basically just talks about how great he thinks he is the whole book. I loved everything in the book: Although it may seem that the author writes basic things, it might be helpful to review the profound ideas behind them.

I recommend this book for those interested in the art of talking and building good communications. Not quite what I was expecting but still informative Read it in 1 sitting. See all 80 reviews. At no point of this book did I feel bored or that he was repeating himself, and for a book about talking and the art of conversing, this is the perfect testimony to its success. I found the book very useful, and the advice it offered was practical and straight forward, although my first thought was that reading a book on how to talk to people is kind of pathetic, but that was an oversimplification. It's a book on how to hold a conversation and Larry King obviously knows what he's talking about.

It's a book on how to hold a conversation and how to connect to people, in social life, in business, in the media, etc. And the biggest takeaway, as Larry himself sums is up at the conclusion of the book, is that talking should not be dealt with as an obligation but rather as a pleasure, an opportunity, which I think we now need more than ever at this time and age where we're constantly talking even when we're alone frantically typing on our phones, and when we feel that we're losing touch with certain people, with whom we have less and less in common, so it's useful to remember that talking is actually a way to connect with another human being, we just have to be willing to try.

However, as a millennial and a non-American, I am not familiar with his guests when he gives examples so It is hard for me to have better understanding. A part from that, it is overall a good book for people who make living with different forms of communication.

This book doesn't just cover how to be conversant but goes a bit into public speaking. I was mainly looking for ideas to improve in small talk with people or small groups. Got some help and ideas for this. Mostly common sense but still good reinforcement. Sometimes we need to hear the obvious. As a person who likes to think out loud one of the biggest changes this book has brought me is Liked it and easy to read.

I hate not being able to finish a thought or sentence and this comes from the bad habit of not thinking a little bit ahead. Also, trying to avoid words like, "basically" and other extra words that don't really help in communicating.

May 06, Darlington30 rated it it was ok. This silver-tongued devil's voice is smooth as silk. He could make anything sound great, which is why this audio book version is not as bad as it should be. It's really just 90 minutes of Larry King from the early 90's speaking off the cuff about speaking. There's no real system or organization to his method - - or any method at all.

If you've never taken a class or read anything else it might be a nice introduction. One of the best sections was about business meetings. I do wish more people followed his suggestions in that setting!

That will give you something to talk about and also people love to be talked to about themselves. One tip is to ask questions using "what do you think? Careful listening makes you better able to respond. Good follow-up questions are the mark of a good conversationalist. Many find that uncomfortable. Maintain eye contact when your conversation partner is talking and when you are asking a question. If you're speaking, you can take your eyes off your partner occasionally. And if you're at a party, don't let your eyes wander over your partner's shoulder as if you're looking for someone more important to talk to.

This will help a lot because you have to relate what you're talking about to the interests of the person you're talking to. Or else, join others in conversations already under way that sound interesting. If the other person is not interested in the subjects that interest you, excuse yourself politely. There's bound to be someone else in the room who's more fun for you to talk to.

One trick is not to get caught in the same place for a long period of time. It is the greatest question to ask and it is the surest way of keeping a conversation lively and interesting.
