From the drive up Cascade River Road, to the views from Cascade Pass, to the amazing vantage from the castle turret-like camps spots among Sahale Glacier, it's a great hike from beginning to end. The day we hiked up was extraordinarily clear for Western Washington. We enjoyed the view from Cascade Pass while lunching but were happy to leave most of the crowds behind there as we headed up Sahale Arm.

On the arm we got to watch several Mt. Goats with their babies, one of these families would wander thru our camp later in the day. Make sure to secure food and sweaty clothes so the goats don't abscond with anything! The final climb up the the camp is a grueling ascent of the terminal moraine of the glacier but the views from the top were worth it. We could see south down the Cascades seemingly to Oregon and to the west we could see Puget Sound.
The next day a pair of male Mt. Goats woke us and we found a much more normal dreary day.
All of the sites from the previous day were covered by fog and mist, so thick that I almost stepped on a Ptarmigan on the hike down. Sahale Glacier Camp is unique, beautiful, and a must do for any nature lover.
Just a wonderful hike even on a cold and cloudy day. Wild life is easier to spot early morning before the crowds scare animals off. Take crampons and start before 8am to make it to the top of Sahale peak and back in one day. We were lucky that NP open gates to parking lot a day before we hiked.
