My home region is one often overlooked and yes, my little rural self has hear the "Wait I grew up hearing scary stories from a lot of these places, and it's great to get a real historical background on some of these tales.

The writing style of this book is simple just the facts which makes the stories even more spine-tingling. I've been to the Old Slave House on a school trip, and refused to go back after the first time because of the eerie feeling I experienced. I also grew up hearing stories about Cave-In-Rock, the Enfield monster, and remember them publishing a story in our local paper about the police force seeing and reporting the UFOs.

I definitely recommend this book; even if you don't believe in ghosts, the cultural richness and local stories in Illinois are crazy, fun, and fascinating. And if you are a aspiring paranormal explorer, this book will make you want to come visit and hunt for our Sasquatch, or prowl the Ohio river reliving its bloody past. One person found this helpful. Traveling through time is always fun! Very concise and very good writing! Highly recommend this book! Being born in Illinois has given me an appetite for interesting tidbits about my home state. Interesting tales that were well researched made this book a very pleasurable read.

My only complaint would be that this book was too short. At pages, I thought the author could have included many more of the ghost stories I know have to be out there. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in history, Illinois, or the paranormal. I really enjoyed reading this book, since I am from Illinois and didn't know about some of the locations written about in this book.

I would be interested in checking out some of the locations. Great Book to have if you live in IL lots of infor to read about our state and what areas are Haunted.

The theme of this book is kind of a mix of horror and mystery. Troy Taylor is an Illinois resident who is fascinated with history and ghost stories. He does a great job of relating the history of a particular place along with the allegations made about it being haunted without drawing conclusions. He lets the reader be the judge. He does not condone people trespassi I actually enjoyed this book allot.

He does not condone people trespassing in grave yards or other places that should be kept private and so often just gives a general location of the place in question. Definitely worth the time and fully enjoyable! Apr 03, Selkie rated it it was ok. He has at least one book out about Decatur as well. Sadly, it overlooked the area in which I was most interested, even though it is a region that seems to be full of paranormal activity well known by its inhabitants.

Absolutely loved this book as it deals with my favorite genre to read, ghost stories, real or imagined. I would love to read more details about each story within but I will have settle for just getting more o author Troy Taylor's books and filling in the blanks. Published by Stackpole Books. Jan 15, Bobby rated it liked it. As a native and resident of Illinois, this was quite a fun read. I found it, like a tongue in cheek, History or Discovery channel type piece filled with fun and great interest, but not necessarily to be taken with entire seriousness.

I love the idea of haunted places and I am sure some are here in my neighborhood with it's historic residences!!

I enjoyed it as a history book on interesting Illinois locations with just a little spookiness to it. Not an ideal read if you want something to keep you up all night. I probably would like it less if I wasn't already familiar with some of these locations. But an enjoyable easy read nonetheless. I'm really not allowed to read scary books.

Haunted Illinois

Would like more from this author. Interesting book with lots of specific locations along with their background stories. Definitely recommend if you're into paranormal stuff and would want to visit these places. I am currently enjoying the book. I thought it could have been written with more first-hand information and details.
