The book itself is absolutely delightful. It's a series of letters, intended for publication, written in from an American to his American nieces or some such.

Sanderson offers a vivid, witty and sympathetic view of Parisian life in the later years of the reign of Louis-Phillipe. I personally got particular enjoyment from the book because of the light it casts on the period in which many of Balzac's novels are set. The scan of this book, however, is truly awful.

Every page is full of single-letter errors, and when the author quotes something in French forget about Latin or Greek it is completely mangled. This would be annoying in a free version but it's really unacceptable in one that is being sold. So, five stars for the book itself and no stars for the scan. I compromised on three.
