The Last of the Mohicans

ComiXology Thousands of Digital Comics. Such human traits as the love of a parent for a child and the great efforts the former will go to ensure the wellbeing and safety of the latter is universal in human nature. In The Last of the Mohicans, he develops a contract between their primitive war-like nature and their love for family and tribe. Paradoxically, it is precisely this affection for family that often prompts violent acts as a defense against those who would perpetrate bloody deeds against kinsmen Feb 19, Christopher Nilsson rated it really liked it.

James Fenimore Cooper was ahead of his time as he saw how colonialism and European greed was destroying American Indian culture and wiping out entire tribes. Most people in his time were bullheaded and refused to sympathize with the American Indians. This was a book written before the term racism was even coined. I enjoy the adventure he takes us on into the world of the Indian tribe he calls the Mohicans. It's a good book. However, my biggest problem with it is that it's extremely difficult to u James Fenimore Cooper was ahead of his time as he saw how colonialism and European greed was destroying American Indian culture and wiping out entire tribes.

However, my biggest problem with it is that it's extremely difficult to understand. I realize it's an old book but if I took a quiz on all the obscure details in it I probably wouldn't do too well. I also felt the book was a bit boring and slow paced in places.

Then again, modern audiences expect too much. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. A great book but perhaps a difficult read for most people. Sep 13, Kyle Hengesbach rated it really liked it. The book The Last of The Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper tells the story of a group of Indians who are the last of their tribe and a woodsman named Hawkeye who lives with them.

The book tells us about how they find their selves in the middle of the French and Indian War and the struggles they face to survive. I enjoyed the book even though it isn't a true story but is a very good book.

If you enjoy the book I would recommend watching the movie also. Jun 03, Tom Cahalan rated it liked it. It's a somewhat interesting book. At points the plot can be hard to follow since it is written in an older style of English. It's considered a classic but it's pretty much your typical run of the mill historical fiction novel. Some of the characters are also a bit boring as well. It's a good book overall though but It's mainly for people that want to read a story that takes place during the French Indian war more than anything else.

The Last of the Mohicans by Eliza Gatewood Warren

An odd and foreshortened version of The Last of the Mohicans, aimed at children. Actually there are a lot of interesting choices. I'm not sure I would give this to actual children, but I enjoyed it, to an extent. Mar 18, Lucinda rated it really liked it Shelves: I don't know why no non adapted edition is available on Goodreads… Anyway, it's full of gripping adventures, the characters are likely and we symptahise for them, it's good storytelling, I wish I had read it as a kid.

And I would have never imagined the ending would be so sad! May 30, Daniel rated it it was amazing Shelves: I think it is a sad book because people die but also happy because it is adventurous and actionpacked it is around the seventeen hundreds. Nov 10, Seana rated it it was ok.

I ended up with the terrible children's illustrated classic version, I hope the real one is better Finally got around to reading the real one and it was only marginally better. Maybe now i'll finally be able to watch the movie without falling asleep. Nov 13, Angela rated it really liked it. My son was sad about the ending and had a hard time keeping track of all of the characters. It was good to talk about the possible relationships and struggles between the Indians and those of other races that settled in America. Feb 13, LoriM rated it did not like it.

Read this adapted version so I could help my grade 4 son with a project he's doing. Jul 15, Rose rated it really liked it Shelves: I do think that the original is worth the effort, however.

Feb 19, Peytyn rated it did not like it. The plot interested me, but it was very long-winded and hard to follow. Jun 20, DavidO rated it it was ok. It's a reasonable read if you are bored. In some ways it's flamboyantly racist, in other ways it's not so racist as you'd expect. A bit predictable though and not hugely memorable. Mar 06, Aneska Gaindalall rated it it was ok. A book that would keep a youngster really occupied. Dec 15, Matthew Broman rated it really liked it.

I actually thought this was a really good book, very sad in the end, my heart actually went out to the two characters in the end.. Feb 23, Chris Devlin rated it it was amazing.
