I began to marvel at the tenderness he lavished on Tina Eventually, Tina left the hospital and went home to a cocoon of nurses, catheters, and ventilators, and I saw her several times a year in my office. Their mutual affection seemed to grow stronger with time and was uplifting to watch, given the relentless burdens Tina's illness imposed on both of them. Doug dedicates this book to Tina, his "good soldier," but in a larger sense it is also a tribute to his powerful advocacy for her survival. I believe their love saved them both. My participation in Tina's care made me a better physician and provided me with one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career.

This is a love story that is also a challenge to the idea that others can correctly judge a patient's eventual quality of life in order to determine the degree of medical intervention that is appropriate in a life-threatening situation. This is a tribute to a brave woman and to all of those who helped her during her most desperate time and thereafter.

I think the reason I wanted to read this book was because my Father was diagnosed with MS, but he took a different road than Tina is on. A less brave one? I don't think so. Tina choose to fight. M father choose to rest. Both came with great sacrifices, I think. Or even around the block.

It is unique because the people it is about are unique. God bless them both. A Memoir of Love, Courage, and Devotion This is a poignant saga of a brilliant, beautiful young Chinese woman that fell in love with an American Ivy League student that tugs at the heartstrings. Numerous social issues are approached that made me proud of a man that never relinquished his love, and continues personal care and commitment even after Ting becomes a paraplegic.

This is a good read, and it sets a noble example of unselfish love and complete support for a disabled spouse. Ting and I is a memoir about enduring love through adversity. The book follows Doug and Ting's lives and is an intimate account of their love story and the adversity they have faced together.
