Really enjoying these books. See 1 question about Born, Darkly…. It was a delight to read a novel with such a fascinating and flawed set of characters about whom we end up caring so very deeply. There is a wealth of well-rendered period detail, but it wasn't sustaining enough given the daunting length of over pages. No trivia or quizzes yet.

After finishing I realized, to me It fell more along the lines of a psychological thriller, and it read like an episode of Criminal Minds rather than a New Adult novel.

With that purpose in mind, it actually kept me quite interested, it held certain points of suspense that made me want to read on! However, this is supposed to be a romance and as much as I want to give this book any more stars This is definitely not for the faint of heart. Unfortunately, the D felt more like political philosophy rather than erotica. Nothing really got me going, in hindsight - seeing all the amazing reviews for this. I feel like I'm the pickiest and stingiest person out here.

It wasn't all that attractive, and being a pacifist - murderers and serial killers and people who take other peoples lives in general? Dry as the Sahara. Especially for the Bundys and Dahmers of the world. Let me explain why Murder, Rape, Kidnapping, Everything in between. He operated in various states in the USA and confessed to killing 30 women. He revisited crime scenes and indulged in sexual acts with the corpses.

Bundy decapitated at least 12 victims and kept their heads as trophies in his apartment.

Treasure, Darkly

Aged 42, Bundy died on the electric chair in His own defence attorney said, "Ted, was the very definition of heartless evil. Dahmer also indulged in necrophilia and cooking body parts of his victim, then eating them. He confessed to murdering 40 elderly patients in New Jersey from to He did this by poisoning his patients to death with unprescribed medication.

He stated that he wanted to relieve the patients from their suffering much like an angel would. Without mercy, though his moniker suggests otherwise. All his victims were deserving of punishment. They have all killed people. There is no scale in murder. Killing someone is killing someone. This book set out to take the Robin Hood complex with it's romance, we saw the equally deranged and broken thought processes of both Grayson and London. It showed how Grayson was killing and torturing people that 'deserved' to be killed because they were killers, or rapists, or criminal themselves.

This allowed Grayson to become a vigilante.

In all honesty, those criminals and sick rapists, and murderers probably deserved things worse than death. However, once Grayson chose to take the law onto himself and he himself, started killing and torturing people? He was no better. Murder is NOT sexy, at least not to me. In this safe haven, I can confess my excitement, my arousal at watching the woman be bound and racked until her limbs snapped.

I refuse to give in to him. The narration was a brilliant tone that created a chilling atmosphere. It's mood was perfect for the topics it dealt with.

At times, the story could get confusing, but I learnt early that, that was the style of the flow and rhythm of the pace. The dialogue felt a bit robotic and monotone, but that was defeated by the over empowering monologue with both the characters. The structure of the book was also really cool.

It was strategically orchestrated so that every little jigsaw piece the reader got, was put into place later on in the story. So hats off to the author for that! The last handful of chapters threw me off completely! I did not see any of that coming and the twist had me at the edge of my seat. I wanted to give this two stars for all the points mentioned above, but I felt at the end of the day - It would be doing my beliefs an injustice.

I'm a massive fan of dark romance, and over the years I've read some pretty fucked up shit. I think the fact that we got a psychological and 'therapy' side to this story made things harder to deal with. Especially with everything going on in our world at the moment. With more and more girls coming out and saying they have been raped. With more murder cases and school shootings, I felt in the cultural context of things. I couldn't get myself to feel any empathy for their love. View all 81 comments. So, Trisha Wolfe is really talented. Chick can write some seriously mind fucked characters, that's for sure.

You can tell she really did her homework as applied to Psychology Either way, I bought it, factual or not. As said, I really enjoyed the psychological aspects of this story as well as the ways details of both main characters' pasts were peeled away layer by layer as the story progressed So, Trisha Wolfe is really talented. As said, I really enjoyed the psychological aspects of this story as well as the ways details of both main characters' pasts were peeled away layer by layer as the story progressed.

There was also a lot of quality sexual tension and pull between the two main characters. That said, I did feel like the romance takes a backseat to the psychological thriller aspect of this book, which is totally fine; however, that might also be why I find myself less than highly motivated to pick up book two - which is surprising what with how much I enjoyed this one. Anyway, definitely pick this one up if you like psychological thriller-esque romance that focuses more on character interaction and development than on plot. View all 13 comments. Book 1 in duet.

What type of fuckedupness did I just get myself into?! I feel like I was taken on a crazy ride with no stops in sight and all I want to do right now is just drink! London Nobel is a brilliant psychologist. Her work has been featured and taught in some of the best classes in understanding the mind of serial killers and how they operate.

They remember what guts them. Noble is the best at her job. I saw evil in this story and I damn sure heard it so that saying needs to go sit in a corner right now and take a nap.

So on second thought, I think I will be needing that therapist after all. There was a why to every reason and he took us on this insane merry go round journey that was filled with shocking behavior, vigilante justice, and missing puzzle pieces that we never even knew was lost. This story was brilliant in every sense of the word and the author did something so extremely different. She made her readers work for the answers. You NEED to read it!! View all 27 comments. Starting this I really had no idea what I was getting myself into, straight away your immersed into a courtroom setting that set the pace of this outstanding novel that had me gobsmacked from start to finish.

In this we meet London Noble, one of the top psychologists of criminal psychology in her field and Grayson Pierce Sullivan inmate number six, one, four a convicted killer the Angel of Maine that London is psych analysing his disturbed clinical behaviours. He kills ruthlessly without remorse or mercy. In Born, Darkly I saw glimpses of the movie saw, the dark, gritty ways to kill and maim victims.

But what happens when London falls for Grayson? If I was a praying person I would ask god to forgive me for loving this book so much!! Ours is not a love story. Ours comes with a warning. And it's not over yet. View all 19 comments. Sep 13, Olga therebelreader rated it really liked it Shelves: This book absolutely blew me away. Few books have ever left me feeling as if my heart was ripped out, but this one was one of them. The story follows London, a smart and beautiful criminal psychologist who treats a convicted serial killer, Grayson.

London gets fascinated by this dark man and falls for him. I am a big fan of dark, gritty erotic psychological thrillers with an obsessive strong alpha male.

This wa This book absolutely blew me away. This was twisted and evil, dark and dank…I've never come across such a complex, difficult, at times hard to watch relationship in my life. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. This was strangely addicting. While at first the main character talking about how beautiful everyone was bothered me, I soon got stuck in the story and absolutely loved it.

The world is very interesting and I love the main characters a lot.

Jun 02, Jane rated it it was ok Shelves: My main comment after reading the first two books in Juliann Whicker's book series Rosewood Academy for Witches and Mages back to back is, what the hell is going on and is there a secret first book somewhere? You know how tiresome all those repeating parts in book series get where the author rehashes the events in the previous books and what's the background information in the first place?

Well, this series doesn't have it and I must admit that it leaves the reader, in this case me, completely b My main comment after reading the first two books in Juliann Whicker's book series Rosewood Academy for Witches and Mages back to back is, what the hell is going on and is there a secret first book somewhere? Well, this series doesn't have it and I must admit that it leaves the reader, in this case me, completely baffled at times. You see, I've read two books by this author now.

These books are the first two books in a series about a year-old girl named Penny who has to find a husband before her 18th birthday. Nor do I know how or why a young girl's marriage is supposed to save a human's life. There's very little information about the world itself and most of it the reader has to put together themselves because Whicker simply omits that information about witches, mages, Darkside, Dayside, and whatever other information there is.

On the upside I felt that the series actually had promise to be a very entertaining read after I downloaded the first book for free, but I felt that I had to return the second book due to numerous mistakes. There were spelling mistakes, character's names being switched, the story itself being whimsical and taking us actually nowhere. The promise is definitely there, but maybe a bit more time editing? While most of the story is told from Penny's POV, there are also some chapters from Drake's POV that's the mage she finds herself falling for even though she doesn't really want to and I understand that Drake cannot know everything about Penny so soon after they met, and vice versa, but I simply wished that Penny's character herself had the audacity to explain to the reader's about her background - what's her connection to Pitch and Poppy, why does she have to get married before she turns After all, it's always 1st person POV.

All in all, I hoped for more and hope that Whicker gives her readers more information next time. Jul 20, Rachael rated it really liked it. This book has a premise that is never fully explained. If it was explained maybe it wouldn't also be dumb. If you can't stand books that throw you in to the story without an explanation and the initial conflict is as thin and confusing as 'a seventeen year old witch needs to be married before eighteen or her mother is going to die', youre not going to like this book.

It drove me crazy. I wanted to shake the author and yell, "do some freaking research into your own novel's own world! I grit my teeth and ignored it initially because Penny, the main character, is pretty cute. She pretended to be sweet to hook her man but over time she proves again and again she is sweet. She isn't a cardboard. None of the characters really are. They're all given depth. I can't quite believe that a story with such an inane premise could build such a sweet romance.

If you can make it through the premise, remember, bon-bons, eclairs, peanut brittle, cupcakes. It'll grow on you. Don't bite the author. Great fun to read. Sometimes I got a little lost between worlds. But I very much enjoyed reading it as a whole. Lollipops and bon-bons made my day. Another Juliann Whicker book that I could not put down. From the start this book leaves you with questions and you have to keep reading to discover the truth. All Penny needed was a nice boy but it get complicated very fast. I can not wait to read the rest of the series. May 29, Kelly rated it did not like it.

Extremely juvenile and all fluff. Aug 24, Catherine rated it really liked it. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.

The premise is essentially a girl in need of a marriage goes to a school with her sights set on Zach who she believes is a nice boy. But she meets drake and This book was kind of a cluster fuck honestly.

Prior to going to school she changed her look drastically. I guess to be more appealing she often repeats names of sweets as well to tell herself not to be so dark. Despite spending most of her time with drake she still endures a lot of bullshit which you think would stop given how supposedly power drake is and how he wields a lot of emotional control with the girls. Everyone is still horrible to her with him occasionally doing nice stuff for her.

Like fixing her room. Nothing makes much sense. Like myself, she finds that balancing the normal with the supernatural is a trick that takes a lot of practice. Between books, I have started to write spin-off short stories centered on characters that unfortunately don't get much of my attention in the books; Dark Craving, Blood and Fire, and Forbidden. These character driven pieces will only appear as e-publications. I hope you enjoy reading the Darkly Series as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
