In this the book was an education. I thing making the public aware by such a book is good. Having lived and worked in some of the areas presented in the author's books I much appreciate the descriptions and caring for the land and its rugged beauty.

I have also known and appreciated many in the area like the diverse characters found in these stories. I also appreciate the very matter of fact in your face attitude of the main character. Known a few, too few women like this and much enjoyed working with them. I think we could use more in the political arena.

I am looking for the next book to read. One person found this helpful. I have to admit I'm a sucker for novels that take place in the desert. Sometimes, my love of desert locales is not enough to carry the book, but that is definitely not the case with Desert Cut.

Webb is skilled at her craft and has produced a set of interesting and compelling characters to move against her chosen backdrop. I will be reading more of the Lena Jones Mystery series. Using her fictitious character, Lena Jones, Betty Webb brings to light a despicable practice that I thought was confined to remote, uneducated, foreign societies.

Desert Lost

This was one of the most painful books I have ever read, but brought to light information that should be front and center of women's issues. Betty Webb has tackled the subject of a heinous practice against women which has long thrived in the Middle East and Africa but now has moved into the very neighborhoods we may live in.

Lena Jones is a likable and spunky heroine and takes on a gruesome case involving Female Genital Mutilation which will horrify the reader and hopefully raise awareness of this digusting ritual mutilation.

The plot is well developed, the characters are true to their real life counterparts and the book is one that you will remember for a long time. I have all in the Lena Jones series and love this series. They are well researched and written and as yet another plus the author always tacks on more info at the end of her books.

Lena jones is trying to discover who killed an escapee from a polygamist compound. The info after the story educates us further into the disposables in these sects. Buy them all and read them on order if possible; I did and enjoyed them so much! I read Desert Lost after having read Desert Wives. I did not think I could be more disturbed, but by the end of Desert Lost I wanted to scream! Not only was a woman murdered, but young men with little or no education were forced to sell their bodies just to survive after having been evicted forcibly from their homes because they represented too much competition for the older men.

How tragic that these things happen in this country. I was so incensed I even wrote a presidential candidate to see what he would do about this were he elected! See all 25 reviews.
